-The United States finished seventh in the medal count, with 12 overall medals. Russia finished first with 33.
-American skiers won seven gold medals in both the sitting and standing categories. Steven Cook won gold in both men’s 5 km and 10km cross country standing categories. Laurie Stephens captured two gold medals in the women’s downhill and women’s super G sitting events. Kevin Bramble earned a gold medal in the men’s downhill sitting event, and Allison Jones took gold in the women’s slalom event in the standing category. Stephani Victor also captured gold in the women’s slalom sitting category.
-Christopher Devlin-Young and Laurie Stephens won silver medals for the United States in the men’s downhill and giant slalom sitting events, respectively.

-Bronze medals were earned by Sandy Dukat for the women’s slalom standing category and the ice sled hockey team, who finished third behind gold medal winning Canada, who defeated Norway in the finals, 3-0. The United States tied for last place in wheelchair curling.

 

Paralympics Available on the Internet

-For the first time in the history of the Paralympics, the games were vailable to the viewing public on the internet through the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
-More than 100 hours of live coverage and on-demand video of all four winter sports was available for free on ParalympicSport. TV, with English commentary. The games were seen in 90 countries, with the highest number of viewers in North America and Europe.
- More than 23,000 viewers logged in the first few days alone. In the United States, viewers have never before been able to see the Paralympics as an overall experience, as compared to the Olympic Games.
