Bloomberg Passes Revised Rent Exemption Bill

-Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently signed a bill that will change the way an individual’s eligibility is calculated for rent and tax increase exemption programs. Like the Senior Citizens Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE), the Disabled Rent Increase Exemption (DRIE) would allow income deductions for people with disabilities. (This signing was an update of the bill signed earlier this year.)
-The bill, Introductory number 724, was sponsored by Councilmembers Lopez, Baez, Barron, Brewer, Clarke, Comrie, Fidler, Gerson, Gonzalez, James, Koppell, Liu, McMahon, Monserrate, Nelson, Recchia, Seabrook, Sears, Stewart, Weprin, Gentile, Palma, Katz, Avella, Sanders, Speaker Miller and the public advocate, Betsy Gotbaum.
