As 2026 gets off to a start, New Year’s resolutions are on all of our minds. One that is common to many is getting in shape for the new year, whether that is continuing an already ongoing fitness journey or beginning a new one in the coming year. Here are four inclusive fitness classes in the area to help get you started:

Hope Fitness

  • Located in North Bellmore and Bohemia. See here for hours and locations.
  • Hope Fitness offers a dance class either in person or remote in an inclusive and fun environment for all levels and ages. This class is offered Mondays from 5:00pm to 5:45pm every week.
  • The first class is free, and after that participants will be charged $45/class.
  • This class offered by Hope Fitness not only improves muscle coordination and flexibility, but also promotes self-awareness and self-confidence, and allows individuals to express themselves, encouraging creativity and reducing stress. Hope Fitness also offers one-on-one training and other accessible fitness classes including Yoga.

Achilles and Citi Bike Adaptive Cycling Program

  • Offered in parks in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens.
  • Achilles International offers the Achilles and Citi Bike Adaptive Cycling Program, which provides cycling sessions for individuals with disabilities. People living with disabilities can reserve either a tandem bike or handcycle. This class is offered weekly and runs from May 25th through early November.
  • All sessions are free of charge, but participants must reserve in advance. See here to reserve.
  • This program uses adaptive bikes, which are designed for riders with a variety of disabilities. A handcycle is specifically designed for those who may have lower limb mobility impairments like amputation or paralysis. This bike allows people to propel themselves forward using their hands. The tandem bikes also allow a sighted person to guide blind or minimally sighted individuals who may be unable to navigate themselves.
  • Francesco Magisano, Director of NYC Metro Region at Achilles who oversees the program, said he would like to see participation increase and hopefully a recent expansion can help. “The goal is to expand the number of first-time athletes that experience our programs and provide an increased number of ongoing opportunities to dive deeper into our social community,” Magisano said. “The expanded workout frequency and locations allow us to meet our athletes where they are in their own communities which results in greater access and opportunities for even more people.”

Moving For Life

  • Multiple locations in New York City. Remote option available too.
  • Moving for Life offers the DanceExercise for Health class, which uses gentle aerobic exercise to help individuals with different abilities affected by cancer. See here for the class schedule.
  • This class is offered free of charge.
  • This class helps to boost mental and physical health while simultaneously increasing energy, range of motion, lymphatic flow, joint ease, mental acuity, balance and calorie burning.

NYU Langone Health

  • Hosted by the Elly and Steve Hammerman Health and Wellness Center but fitness classes are virtual.
  • NYU Langone health offers a variety of different classes, with schedules released each month. See here for more information and the class schedule. For more information, please call 212-598-6429.
  • Prices vary based on the class but all prices are listed on the class schedule for each month.
