Variety – the Children’s Charity of New York recently funded a special mobility bike for Leo, a local child who finds it difficult to walk or balance on a standard bicycle due to his medical condition.
The New York branch of the international charity supports children throughout the tri-state area. Variety – the Children’s Charity International is a global nonprofit that empowers children who are sick, disadvantaged, or living with disabilities to live without limits.
The organization provides mobility equipment such as bikes, trikes, scooters, and lifts for children who are unable to use traditional bicycles or who need extra support.

“While medical support and life-saving care are so urgently needed for so many children in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and across the world, we also recognize that the simple joys of childhood, that many of us take for granted, are often out of reach for these kids,” Josh Pugh, President, Variety – the Children’s Charity of New York, said in a statement.
Variety New York partners with leading healthcare institutions such as Rusk Rehabilitation at NYU Langone. With help from the team at Rusk, Loe’s new bike was professionally assembled and tailored to his needs, transforming what might seem like “just a bike” into a life-changing tool for therapy and play, according to the organization.
For many families, the cost of adaptive equipment can be prohibitively high and is rarely covered by insurance. That’s where Variety steps in to bridge that gap.
