About Able Newspaper
Able Newspaper was founded in 1991 by Angela Miele Melledy. After 33 years the publication was acquired by The Viscardi Center, a Long Island-based network of non-profit organizations that educate, employ, and empower children, adults, and veterans with disabilities.
Now rebranded as Able News at The Viscardi Center, it is a monthly print periodical and digital news outlet that serves as a resource for and amplifies the perspectives of New York’s diverse, vibrant disability community. Emily Ladau, a native New Yorker, passionate disability rights activist, and skilled editor, now serves as the Editor of Able News. As the media platform is reimagined, it will include expanded original content; perspectives from a variety of fresh voices; an accessible, dynamic web presence; and the introduction of new digital and video content.
